Carne alla pizzaiola

Carne alla pizzaiola, meat pizza-style is an absolute classic in the Italian kitchen. The oregano and garlic make it truly unique.

  • 800 grams of sliced veal
  • 400 grams of tomatoes
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • Oregano
  • olive oil


  1. Drizzle some fine olive oil in a large pan
  2. Spread half of the meat
  3. Add half of the garlic and half of cut up tomatoes
  4. Repeat the same operation and top off with oregano
  5. Cover the pan with a lid
  6. Cook on a very slow fire for 40 minutes
  7. Let it cool down for 10 minutes before serving


Carne all pizzaiola is an easy dish. Some shorten time by frying the meat first. It is then covered with tomato, garlic and oregano.You may use other then veal. Some use beef and others pork. There is a chicken version as well. The sauce can coat pasta. Or mopped up with bread. Important is not to waste it.In some cases the meat is topped off with mozzarella cheese. Making it even more similar to a pizza. In Sicily some use caciocavallo. Very hearty indeed.
